Health officials construct a drinking water source after advocacy by an Integrity Volunteer

Well digging going on at the health center

The health center in the Haska Mina District of Nangarhar Province was demolished by armed groups in late 2019. The government started the reconstruction of the health center and it was completed in early 2021.

Mr. Allahbaz, the community monitoring volunteer, who visits the health center twice a week to check the delivery of services noticed that the center’s well had not been constructed. When the visitors and patients travel from surrounding villages, the attendees stay within the yard at the health center until their patients are dealt with which could take from hours to days. The attendees have to approach the neighbours of the health center for portable water and it was not always easy specially during night time.

The volunteer approached the public health officials and shared the problem with them. The officials responded positively and immediately hired a company to dig the well. The construction of the well started in early February and will be completed in the next couple of days.
